What drives you to do the things you love? Finding the reason why we do what we do day in and day out is an important part of feeling fulfilled. For most of us, this applies to a career, a job, or whatever occupies most of our time each day. Searching within ourselves for that why helps put things into perspective, and this is exactly what happened when we asked our teachers this very important question: why do you teach?
Ms. Laura Franks has been a teacher for 8 years and 6 of those years she’s spent in a cyber setting. As a special education teacher for grades 9-12, she believes that school is not a “one size fits all” approach. Ms. Franks tells us why cyber education specifically is near and dear to her heart.
I work in a cyber school because I believe that students should have the opportunity to choose their educational setting & path,” she says. “Each student learns and thrives differently, and I feel that cyber school allows students to choose what type of educational model fits them best.
Ms. Franks is filled with joy when she sees her students overcome barriers and learn to self-advocate for themselves. Her hope is that through her encouragement and support, all students can believe in and embrace their unique abilities and reach their full potential.
I chose to be a Special Education Teacher because I have a passion for working with students of varying needs and abilities,” she says. “I continue to teach because I love having the ability to make a positive impact on the lives of children every day.
Thank you, Ms. Franks for all you do here at Achievement House! We hope you continue to follow your why in all you do!
