Disconnecting with an argumentative child is an effective way to break the habit of arguing. Instead of justifying why they should take out the trash or do their school work, state it directly and walk away or disconnect.
“Your live class is about to begin, please log in now.” State your expectations clearly, then walk away. As soon as we respond to their protests, arguing becomes the focus, not the directive.
Learning to disconnect has broken the habit of arguing with my son, it has changed our lives for the better.” AHCCS Parent
