We honor each child’s uniqueness by offering flexible options and multiple ways to interact with lessons and demonstrate understanding – live or asynchronously, one-on-one, in small groups, or whole-class settings. Students also learn to use technology, including artificial intelligence, as a tool to assist in solving real-world problems, preparing them to thrive academically and confidently beyond high school. How Special Education Works in a Cyber Setting At Achievement House, personalized support ensures that no part of a student’s learning journey is overlooked. Our certified special education professionals use data to differentiate instruction and ensure all students can equally access grade level learning. Students can participate in live classes or asynchronous lessons while collaborating with peers through discussion boards, group projects, and interactive activities. Students can access related services virtually, in-home, or at local community locations, with all the required materials and technology provided. Parents often rave that their child has never experienced this level of personalized support and flexibility before joining Achievement House, allowing their child to fully engage in their education from the comfort and safety of their home. Whether a student requires intensive intervention, targeted therapy, or consistent instructional guidance, our team works collaboratively to ensure every child receives meaningful, personalized support. Our special education services include, but are not limited to, the following: Speech therapy Occupational therapy Counseling and behavioral support Tutoring and academic intervention Personal care assistant (PCA) support Reading specialists Vision therapy Audiological services Social-emotional instruction and small-group counseling Three optional 45-minute resource periods each week Our tiered social-emotional classes provide evidence-based instruction for students who need additional emotional or behavioral support, helping them build self-regulation, communication skills, and confidence. Students who need reading intervention benefit from our Fast Track Literacy program, which provides three weekly group sessions using the research-based HD Words curriculum. This program helps close the gap between a student’s instructional reading level and their grade level. Achievement House’s special education teachers, co-teachers, and case managers also work closely with general education staff to ensure accommodations and modifications are implemented consistently and effectively across all classes. Beyond academic and therapeutic support, students benefit from ongoing mentorship, family guidance, and access to community resources that extend learning and support beyond the virtual classroom. This holistic approach ensures that every student has the tools, encouragement, and confidence they need to succeed. Accommodations for Online Special Education Individualized accommodations and modifications are embedded directly into lesson versions delivered through Schoology grading groups, ensuring students receive materials tailored to their instructional needs. We support our students in a variety of ways to ensure their specially designed instruction needs are met. This allows students to participate confidently without feeling singled out or different from their peers. Supporting Families Through the IEP Process Special Education case managers maintain frequent contact with families, guiding them through every step of planning. Students can extend learning in independent math and reading labs using research-based programs, while parents reinforce skills at home. Families and students also participate in monthly Lunch and Learn workshops, offering practical tips, resources, and strategies to maximize student success. Our Special Education program combines personalized instruction, flexible learning, and a full continuum of support services, making Achievement House an ideal choice for families seeking flexibility and personal attention. With strong staff and student retention, families can trust our experienced, dedicated team to help every student reach their full potential. Student Engagement Is Key to Success Engaging students in their cyber education is key to success. We use a wide range of technologies and instructional strategies to ensure students remain actively engaged in learning, live and asynchronously. Our teachers use the instructional technique called scaffolding, an instructional approach in which guided support is gradually removed as students gain confidence and mastery. This includes the “I Do, We Do, You Do” release model, with lessons intentionally designed so that slides and activities increase in difficulty as support fades. Teachers integrate multiple interactive digital platforms – Classkick, Nearpod, Genially, and Newsela – to create immersive learning experiences. Students can work independently or alongside a live teacher while interacting with the content in meaningful ways. Examples of interactive learning activities include: Escape rooms Hot-spot click activities Gamified quizzes Interactive timelines Drag-and-drop activities Draw-it/annotation tasks Virtual reality field trips Embedded video questions Virtual manipulatives Collaborative boards Audio and video responses Live teacher feedback Peer-assisted learning Templates for writing or problem solving Microsoft-based activities (Forms, Flip, Sway, OneNote, Whiteboard) Teachers also incorporate game-based learning using tools such as Kahoot, Gimkit, Quizizz, and EdPuzzle. During live instruction, students collaborate through Microsoft Teams breakout rooms, interactive whiteboards, and chat-based discussion. Students benefit from additional tools such as Immersive Reader and Book Creator, which allow them to read aloud, translate text, publish interactive books, and express their learning in creative ways. All teachers remain on camera during live instruction to maintain presence and build classroom connections. We make education an interactive experience for our students. How Our Students Connect in Cyber School In a cyber school setting, connection is intentional and deeply embedded into each student’s experience. Achievement House provides numerous opportunities for special education students to interact with teachers, peers, and support staff in ways that feel comfortable, accessible, and meaningful. Students participate in breakout rooms, collaborative projects, student-led activities, and small-group sessions designed to build communication skills and confidence. Here are some of the other ways our special education students stay connected in a cyber environment: Live virtual classes Resource periods Club meetings Discussion boards (audio/video options) PTO events Virtual and on-site field trips Workshops and enrichment activities Many of our special education students find it easier to engage socially in an online environment, where they can use tools like audio, video, chat, or assistive technology to communicate in ways that work best for them. These connections help students form friendships, develop self-advocacy skills, and feel like valued members of our school community – no matter where they live. Find the Support Your Child Deserves We understand that choosing the right school for a child with special needs is one of the most important decisions a family can make. Hour of AI Activities Prepare Cyber Students for AI-Powered World
December 11, 2025 – At Achievement House Cyber Charter School, preparing students for a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world is a core part of our mission. As students participate in Hour of AI activities this week, they are exploring artificial intelligence through engaging, age-appropriate lessons designed by Code.org. By learning how AI works and how to use it responsibly, students build the critical skills, creativity, and confidence they will need in their future studies and careers. At Achievement House, we believe that helping students build AI literacy is no longer optional. It is a core skill for success in school, careers, and life. That’s why we make space for hands-on exploration, critical thinking, and responsible technology use across our curriculum. Events like this week’s Hour of AI reinforce our commitment to being a leader in teaching AI responsibly in schools and providing a future-focused learning environment. By giving students a chance to explore AI through guided, age-appropriate activities, we help them build confidence, curiosity, and the problem-solving skills needed in a fast-changing digital world. For current families and those seeking schools at the forefront of AI in education, the Hour of AI showcases what makes Achievement House a standout option for forward-thinking learners. What Is the Hour of AI? The Hour of AI is part of Code.org’s global effort to introduce students to the fast-growing world of artificial intelligence. Through highly interactive challenges, games, and puzzles, students discover what AI is, how it works, and what its limitations are. The event emphasizes how important it is to use AI safely, ethically, and with a thoughtful approach to problem-solving. Instead of moving through traditional lessons, the Hour of AI encourages creativity, experimentation, and collaboration. Students take part in more than 100 free activities designed to strengthen their understanding of AI concepts while having fun. These activities build a foundation for responsible decision-making and help students recognize how AI influences the world around them. This mission aligns closely with Achievement House’s commitment to bringing modern technology into the classroom and preparing students for emerging careers that depend on strong digital literacy. Hour of AI Activities at Achievement House This weeklong celebration brought the entire school together for a hands-on AI learning experience. Students in grades 7-12 had the opportunity to participate in a special series of Hour of AI activities during the week of Dec. 8-12. While participation was optional, many students jumped in to explore AI in a fun and supportive environment. The event kicked off during Computer Science Education Week and provided a meaningful way for students to understand how AI tools work, how they are used across industries, and how to think critically about real-world applications. Students accessed all Hour of AI assignments directly through the Main Office course page in Schoology, making it simple to get started and explore at their own pace. Kickoff Assembly The week opened with a lively kickoff assembly on Monday, Dec. 8. Social Studies teacher Mr. Dubin guided students through Dance Party: AI Edition, the first Code.org activity. Students learned the basics of how AI models respond to prompts, how training data affects outcomes, and how creative coding can bring music and movement together. The assembly also set the tone for the event, offering students a preview of the activities ahead and strengthening the sense of school-wide excitement. This moment reflected what Achievement House values most – learning experiences that spark curiosity and celebrate creativity while building important skills like AI literacy for students. AI Activities for Students Each student had the chance to complete four interactive activities designed by Code.org, each highlighting a different aspect of artificial intelligence: Dance Party: AI Edition: Students experimented with AI-generated music and movement, discovering how algorithms recognize patterns and create new outcomes. Two Truths and AI: Through playful problem-solving, students learned how AI predictions work, why models sometimes make mistakes, and how important high-quality data is. AI for Oceans: This activity taught students how training data shapes AI behavior, especially in tasks like classification. It also introduced key ideas about fairness, bias, and responsible use. Student Choice Activity: The fourth activity allowed students to choose what interested them most, encouraging curiosity and self-directed learning. Each activity strengthened students’ understanding of AI while reinforcing why schools must focus on teaching AI responsibly in schools to prepare the next generation. Prizes for Participation Students who complete all four assignments by Sunday, Dec. 14, will be entered into a raffle to win Hour of AI prizes. Rewards include Raspberry Pi devices and custom creations from Ms. Jones in the Makerspace. These prizes celebrate student engagement while encouraging continued exploration of computer science and technology. How Families Can Support Their Students Families play an essential role in helping students understand and use AI safely. This week offers a perfect opportunity for parents and guardians to talk about what their student is learning and even try one of the Hour of AI activities together. Exploring these tools as a family can spark meaningful conversations about creativity, problem-solving, and responsible technology use. It also helps families see how Achievement House integrates modern technology in the classroom in thoughtful and engaging ways. Join the Hour of AI There is still time for students to participate in Achievement House’s Hour of AI event. Students can access the Hour of AI 2025 folder in Schoology’s Main Office course page to complete their four activities and enter the prize raffle. Every lesson, project, and virtual collaboration is designed to help students build the academic foundation and real-world skills they will need in college, careers, and beyond. But success doesn’t happen in isolation. One of the most powerful tools students can use to start shaping their future is networking – and thanks to LinkedIn’s Alumni feature, Achievement House students can begin doing that right now. Through LinkedIn, students can connect with Achievement House alumni who have gone on to colleges, careers, and opportunities across the country. These connections can spark mentorships, open doors to internships, and help students visualize what’s possible after high school. The AHCCS Alumni Association also provides opportunities for graduates to stay connected with their alma mater. One of the most valuable tools to start building your future network is LinkedIn’s Alumni feature. It allows you to connect with Achievement House graduates who have gone on to colleges, careers, and opportunities across the country. Why Networking Matters for Students Networking isn’t just for adults in the workforce; it’s a skill that benefits students long before they graduate. For Achievement House students, this means: Discovering inspiration from graduates who have walked the same path. Learning about career options that align with your skills and interests. Finding mentors who can offer advice, share opportunities, and provide guidance as you plan your next steps. LinkedIn’s Alumni feature makes this process simple, interactive, and personal – all while connecting you to the AHCCS community that continues to grow long after graduation. Here’s how you can create or update your LinkedIn profile to start making connections. Step 1: Create or Update Your LinkedIn Profile Before diving into the alumni network, make sure your LinkedIn profile reflects your best self. This profile is your personal brand. It tells your story to potential mentors, colleges, and employers. Here’s how to get started: Add a professional photo. Choose a clear, friendly headshot with a simple background. Even if you don’t have a job yet, include your career aspirations, volunteer experiences, clubs, and school projects.
